VRoid Studio is a free character creator developed by Pixiv. It allows you to design fully rigged 3D characters with custom facial features, hairstyles, clothing, and more; no 3D modeling experience required.

For advanced customization—such as creating custom textures—you can use tools like Blender to further modify your characters.

Create a Custom Character

  • Download and install VRoid Studio
  • Design your character using the intuitive tools and presets
  • Export your character as a VRM file. Make sure you:
    • Select VRM version 1.0
    • Uncheck “Strip Transparent Meshes” option
Storyboarder currently only supports VRM 1.0 files exported from VRoid Studio. We’re actively working on VRM 0.0 support. Stay tuned to our announcements and stay connected through our Discord for updates!
Make sure to uncheck “Strip Transparent Meshes” option with exporting VRoids!
